Fáilte back to the garden! Summer has officially kicked off, and the risk of late frost has finally passed for most of the country. This means we can really get our hands dirty and move our indoor seedlings outside to brave the elements.
This Week's Garden Jobs
Grab your trowels! Here is what we are working on this week:
- Plant out the Sunflowers: If you started sunflowers indoors on the windowsill in May, it's time to plant them in their final spot. Choose the sunniest corner of the garden!
- Sow Carrots Directly: Carrots hate being moved. Dig a shallow trench in the soil, sprinkle the seeds thinly, and cover them up lightly.
- Slug Patrol: With the recent Irish showers, the slugs are out in force. Check under pots and leaves in the evenings to protect your new seedlings.
🌦️ The Weather Watcher's Tip
Got a polytunnel or glasshouse? Remember to leave the doors and vents open during the day this week! Even on a cloudy Irish day, the temperature inside can soar, and your tomato plants need plenty of fresh air to prevent disease.

Got some spare twigs, old bamboo canes, and pinecones from your local woods? Let's build a bug hotel to attract ladybirds and solitary bees. They are the superheroes of the garden and will help eat the greenflies on your plants.
