Fáilte back to the garden! As we head into the middle of June, the garden is really waking up. With the longer Irish days, everything is growing fast—and unfortunately, that includes the weeds! It's time to put on our muddy boots, grab our watering cans, and give our plants a little extra TLC.
This Week's Garden Jobs
Grab your trowels! Here is what we are working on this week:
- Watering Duty: Plants get thirsty when the sun comes out. Remember to water the soil around the roots, not the leaves, and try to do it early in the morning or late in the evening.
- Weed Patrol: Weeds are just plants growing in the wrong place, but they steal water from our veggies! Make it a game: see who can pull the most weeds in 5 minutes.
- Tomato Tickling: If you are growing tomatoes, check for little 'side-shoots' growing in the 'armpits' between the main stem and the branches. Pinch them out with your fingers to help the plant focus on growing big, juicy tomatoes!
☀️ The Weather Watcher's Tip
Got plants in pots? Potted plants dry out much faster than those planted in the ground, especially when the Irish breeze picks up! Check your pots every day by sticking a finger into the soil—if it feels dry beneath the surface, give them a big drink.
