Wiggle Worms - The Autumn Window- Winter Greens & Pansies

August is an absolute celebration for our garden wildlife! As summer reaches its peak, hardworking bees and brilliant butterflies like Red Admirals and Painted Ladies are buzzing around looking for a quick energy boost. This week, our wildlife mission is to set up a safe, welcoming "Butterfly Bistro" in your garden to help our fluttering friends stay fueled up!

By offering a shallow watering station and sweet natural treats, you can turn your patio into a hotspot for local pollinators while learning all about their amazing habits.

What You Need:

  • A Shallow Ceramic Saucer or Plant Pot Tray: To hold your fruit and water station.
  • Overripe Sweet Fruit: Slices of very ripe banana, orange, or overripe melon (butterflies adore sweet, sugary juices!).
  • Clean Pebbles or Marbles: Placed in the saucer so bees and butterflies have a safe landing spot without getting their wings wet.

Step-by-Step Guide:

  1. Set the Table: Place your shallow dish in a sunny, sheltered spot in the garden where cats and heavy winds won't easily disturb it.
  2. Add Landing Stones: Arrange clean pebbles across the bottom of the dish, leaving little shallow pools of fresh water between them so thirsty insects can safely sip.
  3. Serve the Special Menu: Slice up your overripe banana or orange and lay the pieces gently among the pebbles. The sweet scent will draw butterflies right in!
  4. Detective Observation: Sit quietly nearby with a notebook. Count how many different types or colors of butterflies visit your bistro throughout the afternoon.

🐝 The Pollinator Safety Rule

Never use deep bowls of water for insects! Bees and butterflies can easily slip and drown if they don't have safe stones or twigs to stand on while they drink.
