The Rainy Day Nature Mobile 🌧️
Published in August • By The Wiggle Worms
Even in August, a sudden Irish liquid-sunshine shower can pop up and chase us indoors! But a rainy afternoon doesn't mean the garden adventure stops. This week’s indoor project turns our outdoor treasures—collected during our sunny walks—into a gorgeous, breezy nature mobile to hang proudly in your bedroom.
Gather up those fallen twigs, sturdy seed pods, textured leaves, and smooth stones you've been saving. It's time to bring the wonderful textures of the garden right inside your cozy kitchen table workshop!
What You Need:
- A Sturdy Branch or Twig: To act as the main horizontal hanger for your mobile.
- Garden Treasures: Dried seed heads, large leaves, pinecones, or hollow stems.
- Coloured Yarn or Twine & Safe Scissors: For tying and hanging your natural elements securely.
Step-by-Step Guide:
- Sort Your Haul: Lay out your collected items on the table. Match heavy items with lighter ones so your mobile hangs evenly.
- Tie and Secure: Cut lengths of twine and carefully tie knots around your twigs, leaves, and seed pods. A little spot of clear kid-friendly glue can help keep knots locked in place.
- Assemble the Hanger: Tie your decorated strings at different heights along your main branch hanger so the pieces don't bump into each other.
- Hang and Admire: Find a cozy spot near a window where a gentle indoor breeze can make your nature mobile spin and dance!
☔ The Rainy Day Detective Trick
Listen closely to the rain tapping against your window while you craft. Can you match the rhythm of the drops to how fast you're tying your knots?
